With the Holiday season right around the corner everyone has begun scrambling to find the right gifts for their loved ones. The problem is that through experience, I have realized that the outdoorsman can be one of the hardest kinds of people to buy for (being the outdoorsman myself I can verify it's quite true).
That’s why we at American Outdoors Mag have decided to simplify this problem for you. We have compiled a list of the 6 best items to get for the outdoorsman in your life in order to see that big bright smile on their face Christmas morning.
With all recommended products I will leave the link to them at the bottom of this article
Boots
The best thing that you could wish for as an outdoorsman is a good pair of boots, something not too bulky, but that can still withstand the elements while providing comfort and warmth.
The shoes you’re wearing out in the field can make or break your excursion so you want to sport something reliable and consistent. I would recommend the LaCrosse Men’s Ridgeback boots.
They are well reviewed overall and are made with waterproof materials so you can stay dry and warm in the field. Check 'em out here.
Knife
Every outdoorsman needs a good knife, whether you are needing something to keep in your pocket in case of a few quick cuts, or a knife capable of cleaning a whole deer, the pocket knife could very well be considered the outdoorsman's most valuable piece of equipment.
There are many different knives at many different price points but the best that I could recommend would be the Montana Knife Company knives.
They have one for everyone no matter what the purpose and all of them are great quality and beautifully made. Check 'em out here.
Camo
Now since I am including all outdoorsmen in this list of gift ideas I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to mention the hunters. Now one of the most important tools for any hunter isn’t actually a tool at all but a piece of clothing.
That's right, every good hunter needs good camo. While it seems to the outsider that all camo works the same, it can be a little trickier than that. The main objective of camo is to break up the outline of the hunter, but during the hunt other things come into play, such as warmth, comfort, and durability.
Overall for these things I would recommend Sitka, a very well known and reviewed hunting clothing company. They carry all sorts of camo from overalls to light layers for those early season hunts, you can find almost anything at their website. Check em out right here.
Tackle Bag
Now for the fisherman, whether you’re flyfishing the mountains of Montana or frogging a farm pond in Kansas, you need a good way to store your tackle and gear.
Now any tackle box can do this but in order for it to be efficient and useful I would recommend a tackle bag, that way all your gear is right on your back, allowing for easy transport in and out, whether it be through woods or into a boat, a tackle bag is a quick and efficient way for the angler to make his way after the catch of a lifetime. Got yours here.
Flashlight
This one is for all the outdoorsmen in general, because no matter where you are in nature, it’s gonna get dark eventually, and you will always want a way to see your way out of the dark. Therefore a reliable flashlight can always be handy. Now you are gonna want something light and compact, while also providing a healthy bit of light so you can still see your way around. I would say that the best bet that fits all these categories would be the Maglite Compact Size Flashlights. They are smaller but very bright and quite reliable. Check it out here.
Eye Protection
Lastly there is the matter of eye protection, which does not have to be strictly functional.
Whether you are simply protecting your eyeballs from harsh rays of the sun over the sea, or need something to keep debris and smoke clear during a hunting or shooting expedition, these are some of the most important things to carry on your person. Any outdoorsman would appreciate a good pair of sunglasses. Some of the best ones I have experienced are Oakleys.
No make or model recommendations by themselves as everyone has a different taste in eyewear, but don’t be afraid and visit their website and send some photos to whoever you are shopping for, they are durable and stylish glasses that can save the eyes of the wearer from harm. Check 'em out here.
I hope that this article has been helpful and now you might have some better ideas on how to make this holiday season memorable with those outdoorsman and women in your life, Happy Holidays
